Judith Kautto is a graduate of Cornell University and the Boston University Graduate School of Social Work. She did advanced training at the Center for Family Learning in New Rochelle and Rye Brook, New York, and later joined its faculty and was named the Director of Postgraduate Education. She has trained in Cognitive Behaviorial Therapy (CBT) techniques at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston MA.

Her work is based on a cognitive systems model she helped develop at the Center. She was the creator and co-director of The Marital Project, where she trained advanced family therapy students and originated treatment protocols and assessments for improving the level of functioning in marriages.

 She has presented her work at regional and national mental health meetings including the American Orthopsychiatric Conference, the American Association of Marriage and Family Therapy Conference and the Networker Conference.
